You’ve known for a while that something isn’t clicking.
Maybe a teacher brought it up. Maybe homework ends in frustration. Maybe your child is bright and curious and still cannot read the way they should. You are not imagining it, and you are not overreacting. When reading is this hard, there is almost always a real reason, and almost always a real way through.
Signs it might be more than “they’ll catch up”
Tap the ones you have noticed in your child. The more that sound familiar, the more we can help.
- Reads slowly, guesses at words, or avoids reading out loud
- Struggles to sound out new or unfamiliar words
- Spelling that doesn’t improve no matter how much they practice
- Still mixes up similar letters or words past the age you’d expect
- Homework takes far longer than it reasonably should
- Calls themselves “dumb” or has started to hate school, when they clearly should not
- Was slow to learn nursery rhymes, or still finds rhyming words hard
- Was slow to connect letters with the sounds they make
- Hard time remembering sequences like the alphabet, days, or months
- Trouble with math facts, telling time, or a sense of numbers (dyscalculia)
- Handwriting that is slow, messy, or effortful, and avoids writing (dysgraphia)
- Bright but restless, distractible, or unable to finish tasks (ADHD often travels with dyslexia)
- A parent or sibling also struggled with reading (it runs in families)
- A dyslexia diagnosis, or a strong hunch even without one yet
Dyslexia is our specialty, and you do not need a diagnosis to start.
We specialize in children with dyslexia, and we also help learners with dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and ADHD, including those who have never had a formal diagnosis. These often travel together, and the structured, one-on-one teaching that helps one usually helps the others too. Wondering how a dyslexia evaluation works in Minnesota? Read our parent guide.
We work with students from early elementary through high school on reading, spelling, writing, and math, and we offer homework help across subjects.
One tutor, focused entirely on your child.
Every plan is built around the specific gaps your child has. Not a generic curriculum and not busywork, just the skills they are missing.
Support for the whole learner

They were taught in a way that did not fit how their brain learns. Change the teaching and a great deal can change with it, confidence most of all. We have seen it happen with one student after another.
